There’s excitement in the air. It’s the weekend and guests are coming. And that means Amma’s tea trolly is going to be filled with Shezan’s buttery and flaky chicken patties, pastries, and fruit cake. My brother and I are already dreaming of raiding the trolly once the guests leave.
There’s something magical about Lahori winters. Dense fog, dry fruit, and of course Chai. Chai at our home is never complete without the most exquisite and jaw-dropping variety of halwa and biscuits from Shezan. My children insist that I bring two dozen biscuits and three kinds of halwas to avoid unnecessary heartbreak.
Everyone with a sweet tooth has had a thing for these yellow-lemony delights. Their soft velvety texture makes everything all right. Even the worst of days at work. That’s why I always grab a box on my way home after an especially gruelling day at the office.
Hot, humid afternoons after a nerve-wracking cricket match with friends could only mean one thing for our winning team. Chilled bottles of Shezan’s heavenly mango juice over friendly chit-chat and friendly roasting. One bottle is never enough.
I held my newborn in my arms for the first time. My parents and in-laws were ecstatic. Laughter and conversations hovered in the hospital lobby. My eyes searched for Abbu. I want an unforgettable Ramadan menu for my family this year. It’s my daughter’s first year of fasting. She has given me a long list of goodies from her favourite bakery ever, Shezan. Their Pizza, chicken bread, ice cream cake, and bite sized pastries to name a few.
It’s Eid! After almost a decade all of us siblings are together under one roof. The dining table is set just like it was years ago when we were kids. Our parents’ home is filled with love, laughter, memories, and Shezan Bakery’s delectable delights.
